On 1.12.1920, to raise funds for the relief of the famine-stricken people, the China Postal Authorities authorized the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (Peking) to make overprint surcharges on 3 stamps of the 1st Peking Print Junk series. These stamps were sold to the public at the surcharged value (actual franking value for postage) plus a surtax of one cent that was appropriated to the Famine Relief Fund. The overprint reads: "Received in addition to a relief contribution of one cent".
