Japan 1875 - 1 Sen Brown Cherry Blossom with Syllabic 3 (ha) on Foreign Paper, on Cover. A scarce example of the classic 1 sen brown Cherry Blossom issue printed on foreign paper, featuring the distinctive katakana syllabic “ha” (Syll. 3) in the margin. The stamp is affixed to a cover mailed from Osaka city drop mail, dated 7.7.1875, cancelled with Kiban Ne-1 and additionally with N1B1 Osaka cancellations dated 8.7.17.
According to JSCA, this syllabic variety is moderately rare, catalogued at around ¥120,000 (~€850).
A used, well-centred 1 sen brown with syllabic 3 (ha), certified, was sold for about €700 at David Feldman’s 2023 Autumn Auction.
