Nova Scotia 1851–60 6d yellow-green (S.G. 5a), diagonal bisect used provisionally to pay the 3d domestic rate, tied by mute oval grid cancel to envelope addressed to Edw. Ansell Esq., King’s Coll., Windsor, N.S. The bisected stamp boasts close to strong and large margins. The reverse shows a legible Upper Musquodoboit dispatch cancel dated May 1859, confirming its origin in the Musquodoboit Valley, east of Halifax. Additionally, as well as an arrival backstamp cancel. A comparable bisect cover (Feb. 1860, tied by oval grid cancel, with transit and arrival backstamps) realised £1,000 at Spink. SG £5,000 on cover.
