Sold for Unsold

Hanover, 1860 , folded letter  from Achim to destination via Lilienthal, bearing large manuscript red “2½” (silbergroschen) rate with distinctive right curly bracket, denoting postage due under the 1858 Hanover inland rate for over-20-mile distance plus surcharge. Clear blue ACHIM circular datestamp, matching black LILIENTHAL c.d.s. (23/11), red “680 a. Silienthal” account marking, and intact red wax seal on reverse.

Based on recent auction results for comparable Hanover stampless covers with manuscript rates and transit markings, market value is expected in the $200–$500 range.
