1843 Zurich 6 Rappen on Full Folded Letter

Description:

A premier piece of Swiss philatelic history, this lot features a 1843 Zurich 6 Rappen stamp (Canton of Zurich) in deep black with vertical red background lines (Catalog No. 2 S). This specific example is identified as Type III from the 93rd field of the sheet.

Key Features:

Usage: Neatly tied by a crisp black Zurich Rosette cancellation to a complete folded letter dated April 6, 1843. The cover also features a rare black bar cancel from ADLISCHWEIL (Hb 30A-11).

Significance: This represents a "very early use" of the Zurich 6, occurring just five weeks after its initial issue on March 1, 1843.

Condition: The stamp is in superb condition, described as "clean with a strong black print" and "full to over-sized margins." It is perfectly preserved on a minimally foxed original letter.

Certification:

Accompanied by a formal SBPV/ASEP Certificate (No. 7783) issued on September 23, 2007, by world-renowned philatelic expert Kurt Kimmel. The certificate confirms the item as genuine in all respects.
